From the kids of the neighbourhood, the documentary of gentrification Tarlabaşı

I entered Omer Hayyam Street from Tarlabaşı boulevard where there is not even a walking pavement. Although we were scared to enter the street a few years ago, it is now in a rapid change as it got the attention of students, consular staff and artists. With the Tarlabaşı project, the houses in this area began to change. Houses sold for 50 thousand liras five years ago are now sold for 400 thousand liras, of course if you find one for sale. The area I'm talking about is wide spread, which is on the right side from Taksim to Tünel, and you may say it is almost a city in Anatolia.

The project has the aim of sharing our knowledge and foster self confidence in the children and young people living here, as well as the documentation of the lives in the region that has been subjected to gentrification. Also, the55 meter square artist initiative Pasaj, located on the third floor on Kahya Bey Street for almost 2,5 years, used as the workshop/artist residence/exhibition space is another reason for being part of this community. With Pasaj's activities, there is also an effort for people coming here to establish a bond with the community and wish for being a 'native' or 'one' with people here. It is also an effort to give children in this neighborhood the opportunity to understand and apply contemporary art and also express ourselves though it.
